On September 21, POSCO held a contactless inauguration ceremony of the ‘vocational education support program for youth job seekers’ in Pohang and Gwangyang online.

The ‘vocational education support program for youth job seekers’ is a training program for those wishing to find employment at POSCO’s partner SMEs. The participants are provided with training on practical skills needed in the field, such as machinery, electricity, and welding, for two months and job placement.

Last year, POSCO implemented its management philosophy, Corporate Citizenship, actively by participating in the government’s youth employment policy. The company educated 207 young job seekers and linked 167 of them to partner companies and SMEs where it is hard to recruit outstanding workers.

This year, the COVID-19 issue presented many challenges in operating the offline curriculum. However, 111 trainees were able to complete the training in the fourth cycle so far. POSCO launched a new training program, ‘furnace technician course,’ in cooperation with POSCO CHEMICAL.

In the contactless inauguration ceremony, a total of 40 trainees — 20 each from Pohang and Gwangyang — participated. POSCO’s SMEs Consortium Bureau aims to train more than 170 job seekers this year. The trainees will be provided with an allowance of 800,000 KRW per month, learning materials, and educational supplies, as well as accommodation during the training period.

Meanwhile, POSCO provides customized training for its partners, suppliers, and local SMEs that lack educational facilities and professional instructors. Last year, POSCO provided training on maintenance technologies as well as on organizational capabilities to 45,605 employees from 307 partner companies and SMEs.

In recognition of the contributions, POSCO was named as the best consortium educational institution for the second consecutive year in the 2019 SME Consortium Education Program evaluation, organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor on June 16.
