POSCO INTERNATIONAL Launches 14th POINTERS College Student Volunteer Group for ‘Fun Learning’

2024/07/03

Offered a gamified educational program for local children, covering topics such as trade, economy, energy, and environment

Created a ‘virtuous cycle of social contribution’ by providing benefits to volunteers through job mentoring support

On the 27th, POSCO INTERNATIONAL (CEO Lee Kye-In) hosted the ceremony for launching the 14th POINTERS College Student Volunteer Group at POSCO Tower Songdo.

The 10 members of the ‘14th POINTERS College Student Volunteer Group,’ who participated in this ceremony, shared their plans for future activities and committed to becoming reliable learning mentors for future generations in the region.

The 14th POINTERS College Student Volunteer Group will be active for about four months, from July to October. Collaborating with professional instructors, the volunteer group will offer study mentorship to children at local children’s centers, focusing on trade, economics, energy, and environment.

This year, their volunteer activities for mentorship will involve a new educational initiative that incorporates gamification to make learning more enjoyable and engaging for the children.

Additionally, POSCO INTERNATIONAL will assign career mentors from among its employees to the volunteers, providing them with training in trade, problem-solving skills, and teamwork-building activities. Through this mentorship, the company aims to foster a virtuous cycle of social contribution where the volunteers also gain valuable benefits.

The company has been running the ‘POINTERS College Student Volunteer Group’ for 14 years, starting with its launch in 2013. Over the years, 543 college students have participated, providing learning guidance and support to 2,439 children at the local children’s centers in Incheon.

“Through the Pointers Volunteer Group, we are actively supporting young people to channel their passion and energy towards bringing positive changes to the local community,” said Heo Sung-Hyung, Director of Corporate Citizenship at POSCO INTERNATIONAL. “We anticipate this initiative to become a virtuous cycle of activities that connects us, college students, and local children’s centers.”

Meanwhile, the company has educated 580 children from 13 local children’s centers in Seo-gu, Incheon about the importance of carbon neutrality and environmental protection through the ‘Guest Lecture for ESG Practice,’ an eco-friendly career education program launched last year. This year, the company signed a business agreement with the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education to expand their initiative to reach 1,865 students from seven middle schools in Yeonsu-gu and Seo-gu, Incheon.
