POSCO(CEO Jeong-Woo Choi) held the first meeting of 2021 of the Corporate Citizenship Advisory Council, a CEO advisory body, on the 8th to implement the rapidly emerging ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management in earnest.
The Corporate Citizenship Advisory Council is a CEO advisory body that strengthened strategy consultation on ESG by reinforcing three experts in the fields of safety, environment, and organizational culture to the Corporate Citizenship Committee, which has been newly established and operated in 2019.
In February, POSCO established an ‘ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Committee’ in a specialized committee under the board of directors, with governance system for full-fledged implementation of ESG management through the expansion and reorganization of the Corporate Citizenship Advisory Council.
Soo-Geun Kwak, a professor emeritus at Seoul National University, Sea-Jin Jang, a professor at KAIST College of Business, In-Hoe Kim, a professor at Inha College of Law were appointed as members of the Corporate Citizenship Advisory Council, and three outside experts were additionally appointed as new members.
Ki-Seop Moon, a former head of human resource development of The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry who consecutively served as the director of Industrial Safety Division of MOEL (Ministry of Employment and Labor) and the Industrial Accident Prevention Compensation Policy Officer participated as an expert in the safety field. For the environmental expert, Professor Jong-Dae Kim at Inha University Business administration who consecutively served as the president of environmental management and the subcommittee chairman of responsible investment of National Pension Service was appointed and Professor Kyu-Chang Yoo at Hanyang University Business administration who consecutively served as the president of Korean Academy of Organization and Management participated as an organizational culture expert.
At the first meeting in 2021, attended by members of the Corporate Citizenship Advisory Council and POSCO officials, starting with an explanation of the direction for corporate citizenship to be pursued in earnest this year, shared the plan for the 2020 Corporate Citizenship Report publication, and discussed detailed plans for POSCO’s safety implementation strategy and more.
Participants agreed that “2021 should be the first year of generating results through the implementation of corporate citizenship and ESG management” and also carried out strategic advice on practical measures to root corporate citizenship as POSCO’s sustainable culture and advancement of ESG management system.
POSCO plans to hold Corporate Citizenship Advisory Council every quarter to check the practical performance of corporate citizenship and provide strategic advice on issues related to industrial safety and health, as well as implementing full-fledged ESG management.
Meanwhile, the Corporate Citizenship Advisory Council has contributed significantly to the publication of the climate action report reflecting the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) recommendations through strategic advice and to POSCO’s declaration of carbon neutrality.
