Celebrating its 19th anniversary this year, the Global Standard Management Awards is hosted by Korea Management Registrar (KMR) and sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy & the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Each year, the management system and performance of companies are evaluated, and among them, outstanding companies are selected as winners in seven different categories, including Sustainable Management and Social Contribution.

POSCO was acknowledged for presenting practical solutions, as a corporate citizen, to various social issues, such as low fertility rate and youth unemployment. Securing sustainable competitiveness through eco-friendly products and smart factories was another reason for its appointment.

POSCO was selected for maintaining sustainable management for two consecutive years, and especially this year, the company also won another award in the Sustainable Management Report category.

The 2019 POSCO Corporate Citizen Report published this year was highly appreciated for disclosing major Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) data in accordance with the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) — the first among leading global steelmakers. The report also included recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) for the first time in the domestic manufacturing industry.

Especially this year, POSCO O&M, a POSCO affiliate providing professional services in the fields of real estate management, facility & infrastructure maintenance, and construction business support, was selected as the winner for the Social Contribution category for the first time.

POSCO O&M has been carrying out systematic and constant CSR activities that are related to the industry as a corporate citizen and creating shared values with local communities.

The activities carried out by POSCO O&M include the house renovation project for families in need and the ‘Re-Born’ project that up-cycles discarded home appliances and donates them to families with disabilities.

To resolve the issue of micro-dust, POSCO O&M also co-developed ‘POS-Pure,’ a micro-dust collecting sterilizer, with an SME, and donated them to a hospital in Seoul to help patients with respiratory problems.

Meanwhile, POSCO Group plans to publish a Climate Report that embodies future strategies for low-carbon emissions following TCFD standards and lead the sustainable business.
