POSCO Group is embarking on a full-fledged initiative to create safer workplaces, starting with a partnership with SGS, a leading global safety consulting firm.

On September 2nd (local time), POSCO Group signed an MOU with SGS at SGS’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, to innovate POSCO Group’s safety management system. SGS is the world’s largest safety consulting company specializing in construction and plant diagnostics, with over 2,600 branches worldwide.

Through this MOU, the two companies plan to focus on establishing advanced processes by thoroughly inspecting the safety systems of POSCO Group’s construction sector and deriving effective solutions. They aim to begin safety diagnostics for POSCO E&C within this month. The two sides also agreed to exchange safety expertise and technology, and to cooperate in the establishment and operation of the safety-specialized company that POSCO Group is currently pursuing.

On the same day, Chairman In-hwa Chang emphasized, “We will take the lead in boldly innovating all aspects of our systems, culture, and technology to dramatically raise POSCO Group’s safety standards and create a workplace where all employees can work safely.” He also met with dss+, a safety consulting firm established using DuPont’s safety expertise, to explore various ways to cooperate on POSCO Group’s overall safety solutions.

Last month, on the 14th, Chairman Chang also visited Europe to discuss the latest safety management techniques and leading European safety management policies with SGS, personally overseeing efforts to strengthen the group’s safety management.

Meanwhile, as part of its safety management innovation plan, POSCO Group is pushing forward with the establishment of a safety-specialized company. The group plans to benchmark global safety leaders, consider M&As, and review all possible options to establish a smart safety solutions company that integrates safety and AI.
