This year, POSCO was selected as an outstanding company in the global sustainable management indices (DJSI World) from among 23 companies in the steel sector. POSCO received the highest environmental scores (water management and climate change), and excellent grades in shared growth, stakeholder management and sustainability reporting.

POSCO is planning to share the sustainability assessment results with its related departments and further enhance the group’s sustainability in talent recruitment and retention, tax policies, human rights and measurement of impact on the local community. Furthermore, POSCO plans to spread social awareness about sustainability to various stakeholders including investors.

DJSI are indices jointly developed by S&P Dow Jones Indices, a provider of financial information in the United States, with RobecoSAM, a Swiss firm specializing in assessing global sustainable management. They are acknowledged as the world’s most authoritative sustainability indices.

This year in the steel sector, POSCO was one of 15 companies selected as an outstanding company in the global sustainable management indices (DJSI World). POSCO scored the highest in risk management, biodiversity, social contribution, and stakeholder management. The company also received favorable reviews for climate strategies, customer relations management, and securing and assessing talented human resources.

“POSCO will share the assessment results with related departments and upgrade the group’s sustainability in issue management, response to climate change, safety, and health,” said a POSCO official. “We expect these results will deepen the appreciation for sustainability among corporate stakeholders, including investors.”

The DJSI selects the top 10 percent companies for sustainability from the world’s leading 2,500 companies based on research, corporate monitoring and surveys throughout the year.

The DJSI results are widely used by international corporate investors, funds, and financial products for identifying socially responsible investments. Companies recognized as having outstanding sustainability practices can gain additional business opportunities, while also improving the communities around them, thereby achieving stable growth and sustainable development.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index is the most trusted international sustainability evaluation index in the world. It is developed by the Swiss sustainability evaluation institution, RobecoSAM, and the U.S. financial information provider, the Dow Jones.

POSCO is one of only 42 steel companies included in the DJSI. POSCO received the highest scores in areas including risk management, supplier management, contribution to society and environment and participation of interested parties. POSCO has been included in the DJSI longer than any Korean company.

“We will share the results with the related departments and further improve POSCO Group’s sustainable growth in shared growth, labor and human rights and safety and hygiene, with the expectation to promote social empathy for sustainability among a range of interested parties, including investors,” said a representative from POSCO.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index selects the top ten percent of companies in each industry among the 2,500 companies total listed in the Indices as leaders of sustainability, based on media polls, corporate monitoring and surveys.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index is also used by a number of socially responsible investment (SRI) funds and financial services providers. Companies with a high level of sustainable growth can dominate the business climate by fulfilling social and environmental responsibilities while achieving stable growth and sustainable development through risk management in economic, environmental and social areas.
